GoldenEye is perched on a seaside cliff, surrounded by secret coves, private beaches, topical forests and an expansive lagoon. As the former home of renowned author Ian Fleming, this hideaway is one of Jamaica’s most iconic and historic hotels. Today the resort embodies laidback luxury, giving you the chance to stay in the writer’s original Fleming Villa − or in one of the private villas, cottages or beach huts. The grounds offer two seafront pools, a waterfront spa and a sophisticated array of dining venues, while the extensive activities programme includes water sports, tennis and nature walks.

Covering 52-acres, the GoldenEye estate lies on Jamaica’s northern coast, around 13 miles outside of Ocho Rios. Tucked away in the less developed town of Oracabessa, the resort provides direct access to two private beaches and is situated just two miles from the white sands of James Bond Beach. Dunn's River Falls are around 15 miles away, so you can discover the rainforest, rivers and impressive waterfalls, and the eco-friendly Mystic Mountain adventure park is of a similar distance. Montego Bay is the nearest airport, around 73 miles away, and Kingston-Norman Manley Airport is slightly further, around 78 miles from the property.

The accommodation is luxuriously rustic. More affordable One- and Two-Bedroom Beach Huts are dotted around a garden, with simple but elegant interiors and unique views of the lush hillside, sea or beach. Many are raised above the ground on stilts, while the Two-Bedroom Beach Huts are spread across two storeys, creating an enhanced sense of privacy for groups or families with older children. Lagoon Cottages are ideal for water sports enthusiasts, boasting direct access to the lagoon from a private dock, while those seeking direct beach access can book a One- or Two-Bedroom Beach Villa with an outdoor shower, vast dining veranda and full kitchen. The three original properties are very private and include separate bedroom and living areas, a kitchen, a veranda and a private outdoor shower and free-standing bathtub. The largest is Strangeways, an impressive three-bedroom oceanfront villa, situated on the clifftop with a private swimming pool and superb views across the Caribbean Sea.

Other facilities

Low Cay is the main white-sand beach, stretching 150 meters along the shore. There’s also the smaller Button Beach which houses an authentic rum bar. Beach towels and sunloungers are provided free of charge, and trained water sports staff can assist you with kayaking, sailing and paddleboarding. You can also explore the coral reefs at Snorkeler’s Cove or enjoy complimentary glass-bottom boat tours along the coastline.

Swimmers can take a dip in the freshwater infinity pool towards the end of the beach or use the eye-shaped saltwater pool edging the Caribbean Sea. The sprawling salt-and-spring water lagoon is the ultimate swimming spot with dazzling natural surroundings. It’s here that you can swim across to the tiny Santa Maria Island, an uninhabited piece of land in lagoon’s centre, or paddleboard over to the spa cottage to indulge in herbal treatments, signature massages, salt scrubs and body wraps − many incorporating local products grown on the hotel’s own Pantrepant farm. Yoga, meditation and fitness classes are also available for a supplementary charge.

Elsewhere, you’ll find an open-air gym, a floodlit tennis court and a small gift shop. You might be lucky enough to enjoy a free guided tour of the famous Fleming villa, providing it remains unoccupied during your stay. Environmental-focused activities include nature walks, bird watching and tree planting.

Dining information

Set beside the main beach, the casual Bizot Bar serves daily breakfast and lunch. You can start the day with fresh fruits, banana pancakes, waffles and made-to-order omelettes, followed by lunchtime salads, soups, burgers, local specialities and sweet treats. Bamboo Bar is the perfect spot for casual beachside drinking and dining. You can order barbequed jerk chicken and grilled catch of the day here, or simply try the local rum punch. You can also enjoy island cocktails or fruit smoothies at Shabeen which boasts a rooftop lounge with panoramic sea views.

The Gazebo lounge and restaurant is set in the treetops, accessible via an illuminated bridge. This romantic venue opens for drinks and dinner and specialises in authentic Jamaican cuisine. On the menu, dishes range from local curries to grilled seafood, and all incorporate fresh ingredients straight from the hotel’s organic farm. Private outdoor dining experiences and room service are also available.
