Pestana Bahia Praia Nature & Beach Resort is a peaceful haven, located on Sao Miguel Island, in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. It offers direct access to private stretch of beach, a large outdoor pool, spacious rooms and two on-site restaurants.
Known as the Green Island and the largest of the Azores, Sao Miguel offers strong links to the sea and nature. It’s an area best suited to enthusiasts of outdoor pursuits including whale watching, sailing, surfing, diving, hiking and cycling. The charming seaside town of Vila Franca do Campo is under three miles from the hotel and you can visit the 15th Century church of Sao Miguel in its centre. Alternatively, a day trip to the thermal spa town of Furnas in the island’s east is a must. The resort is approximately 16 miles from Ponta Delgada Airport (also known as Joao Paulo II Airport).

Not only do you have access to the hotel’s private Baia de Agua d’Alto beach, but the resort also features a large outdoor swimming pool. Sun loungers and parasols line the terrace around the pool which is surrounded by manicured lawns and unrivalled natural scenery. Other facilities include a games room with table tennis and a pool table, a small fitness room, Turkish bath and sauna, as well as two outdoor tennis courts. Massages and spa treatments are available at an extra charge.

Elegantly decorated and offering a la carte service is 9 Ilhas Restaurant. An emphasis on regional products and dishes are served for lunch and dinner.
At the pool (and open seasonally) is Greenbar offering a wide range of drinks, light meals and ice cream. Alternatively, stop by the cosy Aqqua Bar which overlooks the sea and pool. It’s open throughout the day with live music performed on selected days.
