Overview

Set on an unspoilt island in the Maldives, Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru is immersed in the breathtaking natural beauty of the Indian Ocean. The island is flanked by spectacular white sandbars and dazzling lagoons, and its surrounding waters house incredible marine life – including endangered whale sharks, sea turtles and manta rays. This five-star resort offers world-class scuba diving experiences, a water sports centre, and an innovative marine discovery centre, with its own turtle rehabilitation centre. There’s also a peaceful health haven, AyurMa, that draws from the four pillars of Ayurveda, yoga therapy, wellness and planetary wellbeing. Plus, there's a fabulous dining scene, four swimming pools, a kids’ club and a luxurious range of beachside and overwater villas.

Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru lies on a remote, 44-acre island in the beautiful Baa Atoll − a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, one of the world’s top scuba diving destinations. For an additional charge, you can visit the resort’s sister property, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, by taking a direct seaplane or boarding the hotel’s private liveaboard catamaran (additional charges apply). The property is around a 35-minute seaplane ride from Male International Airport.

The resort’s ultra-chic villas are built in a traditional Maldivian style, with high thatched roofs and wood or coral rock walls. They maintain a strong sense of privacy along the beachfront or upon stilts above the ocean, offering direct access to the beach or lagoon. They are decorated with a calming palette of beach-inspired whites and creams with seashell-pink accents, a nod to the island's surroundings. The spacious bathrooms include twin sinks, a separate bathtub and a walk-in shower – and you’ll find a separate shower outdoors, too. Enjoy lounging in your living space, sunbathing on your private outdoor terrace and taking a dip in your own private pool.

Other facilities

This resort is a haven for nature lovers. At the interactive marine discovery centre, you’ll find a turtle rehabilitation centre, fish lab, coral reefscaping programme, hologram room and exhibition areas that teach guests about different marine species and environments – as well as the projects the Resort undertakes to support them. There are even in-depth trainee marine biologist modules for environmentally minded teens. Meet rescued sea creatures up close, attend presentations led by resident marine biologists and take part in pioneering research and conservation projects. You can also book snorkelling and monitoring excursions with a marine biologist as well as participate in the work of the on-site Mantra Trust experts, including joining the team on the Manta research boat. When you sign up for the ‘Manta on Call’ service, the research team will contact you via a Manta Phone if they spot manta rays nearby (usually between June and November). Then they’ll whisk you to the manta rays in a speedboat to snorkel with them.

You can also swim and snorkel around the lagoon’s vibrant coral gardens, situated just offshore, at any time of year, where the resort’s reefscapers have deployed 5000 coral frames to boost the existing reef – or book PADI diving courses at the PADI 5-Star IDC Centre (additional charges apply). Head to the water sports centre on the west side of the island for a comprehensive selection of wave-riding toys and hire complimentary equipment for snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing. Adrenaline-fuelled activities, such as electric hydrofoils, jet skiing, seabobs, kite surfing and wakeskating, are also available at an additional charge.

There are three separate pools dotted around the island, including the main Olympic-size pool and a saltwater pool. The shallower freeform pool is located at the kids’ club, alongside a pirate ship and outdoor play area. Kids between the ages of 4 and 12 can spend time here, participating in supervised, educational activities. Meanwhile, teenagers can socialise over a game of pool or table tennis, enjoy hanging out with the scientists at the marine discovery centre, or learn the flying art of AntiGravity® Yoga in the Jungle Pavilion.

There’s an expansive health haven at AyurMa spa. Adults all receive a complimentary wellbeing consultation at AyurMa, with the team of Ayurvedic physicians, naturopaths and yoga therapists who can recommend simple lifestyle adjustments and personalised treatments. You can follow this up with a private treatment or book a private yoga session along the yoga energy trail. There’s also the Rossano Ferretti hair salon and the first resort-based facial studio of Teresa Tarmey.

Dining information

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Café Landaa, where you’ll find three inviting dining pavilions. This restaurant specialises in Asian and regional delicacies, which are either cooked in a tandoor kitchen or prepared at the dedicated teppanyaki counter. Blu Beach Club is also open all day, offering al fresco beachfront, a la carte breakfasts for two, and treetop dining experiences, in addition to private cabanas. You can savour contemporary Italian cuisine here, including homemade pizza and antipasti, as well as smaller tapas and ceviche dishes. Blu also has an exclusive partnership with Michelin-distinguished chef Gaetano Trovato, whose Tuscany-meets-Maldives magic is available for just two tables of up to four diners a night in person twice a year, or year-round via his on-site protégées. Blu Bar and the swim-up poolside bar also serve light fare throughout the day, including fresh salads and sandwiches.

As the sun sets, take a stroll out to Seabar, which is perched on an ocean deck, overlooking the turquoise waters and coral reef. You can whet your appetite with signature frozen margaritas and tapas-style plates, before feasting on fresh catch of the day or organic grilled meats at the casual beachfront restaurant, Fuego Grill. Otherwise, delight in authentic flavours of Lebanon and Morocco at the candlelit Al Barakat rooftop restaurant and finish the evening with drinks or a Turkish coffee at Al Barakat’s lagoon top Shisha Bar and watch the baby lemon sharks swim by. Destination dining including secluded sandbank barbeques and in-villa dining experiences are also available.

If you stay on the half-board or full board meal plan, you can enjoy a three-course a la carte dinner along with theme nights in any of the four resort restaurants.
