Directions from Johannesburg:
Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to Witbank and Middelburg. Turn onto the R540 towards Belfast, Dullstroom and Lydenburg. Dullstroom is set on the highveld and is an ideal point for exploring the region. The village has a quaint old-world atmosphere and is famous for its trout fishing. This is an ideal halfway stop on the way to Kapama Private Game Reserve. From Lydenburg proceed on the R36 to Orighstad, through the Strydom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This scenic drive through Mpumalanga has awesome landscapes and unforgettable views. Drive up the mountain passes onto the escarpment and look down onto the wonders of the lowveld. At the Strydom Tunnel there are a number of stalls selling ethnic curios from the area.
At Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie. Continue on the R40 until you reach the entrance on your left-hand side.
Surrounded by stillness and sweeping bushveld, the Kapama Wellness Centre located at River Lodge, takes safari spa treatments to new heights. Considered one of the finest safari spas in Africa, the six sumptuous treatment rooms are arranged around a generous central lap pool that evokes a sense of calm.
The Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species is just a short drive away from the lodge. Here cheetah, wild dog, serval, caracal and various other species are rehabilitated and can be safely viewed from close range. Rare king cheetah can also be seen here.
Many guests support the elephant interaction opportunity offered at Camp Jabulani to be life-changing. To meet and interact with Kapama's elephants, your ranger will drive you to a specifically designated location in the bush, where the reserve's habituated elephants will be browsing in the wild. The elephant herd ranges in age from calves to mature adults of over 30 years.
