Overview
Since it was built in 1962 the Ghost Mountain Inn has been owned and managed by the same family. As such there is personal attention given to all our guests and all areas of the hotel. The history of the family and the area are well documented with various historical photographs throughout the property. Situated in picturesque northern KwaZulu Natal, within easy reach of several game and coastal reserves in Maputaland and the Elephant Coast. This location allows for the exploration of many diverse activities and attractions, either as a self-drive, or with our Safari Company, which offers game drives, boat cruises, tiger fishing, acclaimed birding and cultural excursions. The hotel is named and built in the shadows of the historically important, Ghost Mountain. A section of the Ndwandwe tribe headed by the Gaza family lived beneath the mountain but in 1819 were driven by King Shaka into current day Mozambique. They did however sneak the bodies of Chiefs back to their traditional burial Caves on Ghost Mountain. The local people would see lights and hear voices coming from the burial chambers and believe that the mountain haunted.
