Its huge 19th century opera and ballet theatre is one of Eastern Europe’s best, while Warsaw has clusters of cosy bars in the back streets around the reconstructed old avenue at Nowy Świat. Warsaw flights are also a starting point for journeying further into Poland. Within a few hours of the city are the medieval university town of Torun, Białowieża Forest, a pristine woodland that’s home to Europe’s last bison, and Kraków, Poland’s immaculately preserved second city.
Flights to Warsaw from London Heathrow take 2 hours 20 minutes. Warsaw airport is located only 6 miles from the city centre, making onward travel by train or bus especially convenient.
