Mauritius boasts stunning scenery through and through: wonderful waterfalls, striking cliffs and turquoise waters that lap white sandy shores. While some travellers enjoy the exclusive east coast, others obstinately insist “west coast best coast.” In reality, each end of this Indian Ocean island (including north and south) provides unique perks. Whether you want to stay near blissful beaches or glorious golfing greens, choose from these best hotels in Mauritius.

For couples: Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita
Check in to the luxurious Four Seasons Resort on Mauritius’ exclusive east coast for a leisurely holiday with your sweetheart.
The lowdown…You will feel like you have dropped into a tropical fairy tale when you arrive at this elegant enclave. You can swim amongst the marine life with a snorkel or view the exciting underwater world from a glass-bottom boat. You’ll find there’s nothing more romantic than discovering new things together.
When you two are not puttering around one of four pools, test your skills on the hotel’s putting green. In addition to six oceanfront holes backed by majestic mountain scenery, the perfectly picturesque Ernie Els-designed course also has a driving range. Head to the spa together next and let massage therapists knead out any knots in your private overwater treatment suite. If you fancy a fancy date night, dine upon classic French cuisine at Beau Champ next to the water’s edge or venture to Acquapazza for Italian specialties; both have tables overlooking the ocean.

Unlike many hotels, The Residence makes looking after your health easy on holiday. You can receive complimentary circuit training from 8.00am to 9.00am, or you can test your athleticism on the beach volleyball and floodlit tennis courts. You can carry on with drinks in B Bar until midnight, then move the party to the on-site Jalsa nightclub on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

For a budget: Émeraude Beach Attitude
Cheap holidays to Mauritius may sound like an oxymoron, but you can enjoy the dreamy destination while based at Émeraude Beach Attitude without breaking the bank.
The lowdown…High prices won’t drive you from the east coast when you stay at this Attitude hotel, which strives to convey the spirit and essence of Mauritius. Cool ocean-coloured accents complement the clean white rooms, along with marine-themed bedspreads and nautical paintings by Mauritian artist Evan Sohun. Each guest room also includes either a furnished terrace or balcony for soaking up the sun in private. When your adventurous spirit strikes, take advantage of complimentary snorkelling and glass bottom boat rides in the lagoon.
You can also simply relax on the beach with a cocktail, served from a typically Mauritian beach cart. To sip a cool drink in the shade, make your way to Tides Bar, outfitted with large wicker chairs covered in cushions. If you love Mauritian cuisine, you’re in the right place because all three of the restaurants at Émeraude Beach Attitude serve it: Taba-J dishes up Mauritian street food; Kot Nov provides Mauritian dinners and Les Alizés caters for all tastes with a mix of local and international cuisine. You can also request picnic boxes to take on the go.
Know this…With free Wi-Fi in public areas, you can stay connected and share all your best holiday snapshots with your friends and family back home.
Newly renovated: One&Only Le Saint Geran
With a recent renovation, the One&Only Le Saint Geran (on its own private peninsula) has just gotten lovelier.
The lowdown…Most of the hotel’s new additions focus on family and fitness. Parents and children can enjoy splashing in the new family pool at Palm Grove, leaving couples and spa visitors to retreat to their own dedicated pools. However, the largest new feature is the massive Club One, equipped with Technogym equipment for cardio and resistance training; it also has dedicated spaces for spinning, yoga and Zumba. Sports enthusiasts can play on the complex’s floodlit tennis courts, volleyball court or the island’s first Henri Leconte Padel courts. If you’re running on empty, grab a nourishing bite or energising juice from the snack bar. Little ones will keep busy with sports, art classes and DJ dance parties in designated KidsOnly and OneTribe recreational centres at Club One.
If you prefer to spend your time on the water, visit the revitalised Pavilion Boat House for complimentary water sports. You can serenely kayak across the cerulean ocean waters or zip across waves on water skis. Don’t forget to pencil in some relaxation time on the pearly white sands or book a Mauritian-inspired treatment in the spa. You will want to arrive early to take laps in the pool or soothe your muscles in the steam room and sauna.
Know this…Once you land in Mauritius, why not lift off again for a 15-minute helicopter ride to One&Only Le Saint Geran? You’ll get the best views of your new temporary digs when you arrange this transfer with the hotel.
