Flights to Izmir

A flight from London Heathrow to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport takes just under four hours.

Once you land in Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, the city centre is just 20 kilometres away. You can catch an airport shuttle bus or a taxi from outside the terminal building, which should get you to most destinations in the city in around 30-45 minutes. There’s also a metro station serving the airport that will get you to the city or to other locations in Turkey.

Make your way to the top of the Asansor, a monumental walkway that hugs the hillside, and gaze out beyond the city limits. If you’re inspired to explore further afield you can take a day trip to visit the excavated remains of Ephesus, a city left over from Ancient Greece. It includes the Temple of Artemis, a vast Colosseum-like theatre and the reconstructed Library of Celsus that once held 12,000 scrolls. 

A two-hour drive away is Pamukkale, famous for the 17 thermal springs that flow down the iconic Travertine Terraces. Visitors can take a dip in the warm, mineral-rich water.  

You can also easily visit the nearby Cesme Peninsula and vibrant Kusadasi from Izmir, if you want to relax on the Aegean’s blue water beaches and stay at all-inclusive resorts.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Turkey, but they will need to hold a valid UK passport with at least six months validity.
