Where can I find baggage information when travelling with a partner airline?
Last updated: 8 October, 2024
Baggage allowance varies depending on the airline you're flying with and where you're travelling to.
If a journey with connecting flights includes ‘BA’ and other airline codes, your baggage allowance is determined by the most significant marketing carrier as defined by IATA Resolution 302. This should be reflected within your e-ticket receipt. The marketing carrier is the airline whose code is applied to your flight.
The most significant carrier is defined by the first marketing airline to cross an IATA area. IATA areas are 1) The Americas, 2) Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, 3) Asia, Oceania, and the Pacific islands.
If no IATA area border is crossed than the first flight to cross an IATA subregion is the most significant. IATA subregions are: Europe, Middle East, Africa, North America, Central America, South America, Caribbean Islands, Southeast Asia, South Asian Subcontinent, Japan and Korea, the Southwest Pacific, Russia (east of the Urals) and Russia (west of the Urals).
If no IATA area or subarea is cross, then the carrier marketing the first international sector is the most significant carrier.
