Changes to your Tier Point collection period

We're constantly improving the British Airways Executive Club for our Members, which is why we're changing your Tier Point collection period to make things a little simpler.

From next year, your Tier status will reset at the same time as everyone else's, meaning you'll have the same Tier Point Collection Year as friends and family who are also Members of the Executive Club.

In future, the Tier Point collection period will start on 1 April and end on 31 March every year. The change will be in place for all British Airways Executive Club Members, starting from 1 April 2025.

Rest assured, we’ll make the change gradually, and you can continue to enjoy the benefits you’ve earned in our current Tier Point collection period. You’ll also have the same opportunity to renew or upgrade your Tier status while we transition your Membership to the new Tier Point Collection period.

How it works

General

On 1 April 2025 the Tier Point Collection Year for all Executive Club Members will be aligned to start on 1 April and end on 31 March every year. We’ll start to transition to the new Tier Point collection year from 1 April 2024.

Tier Point Collection Year

The 12-month period starting from the 8th day of the calendar month in which a Member of the Executive Club takes their first flight.

Or, if the Member joins after such date, the 8th day of the following calendar month, and every consecutive 12-month period thereafter.

Membership Card Expiry

The date your benefit period ends; typically, the end of the month following your Tier Point Collection Year.

For example:

  • Tier Point Collection Year ends: 8 November
  • Membership card expiry: 31 December

Eligible Flights

Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed or operated by British Airways and those flights marketed and operated by Iberia.

'Marketed' means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket).

'Operated' means the aircraft that you travel on is a British Airways aircraft (including franchises and BA CityFlyer and Euroflyer).

'Marketed and operated by Iberia' means the flight will have an IB flight number and the aircraft you travel on is an Iberia aircraft (including franchises).

The retrospective Tier Points added into your account during the transition period.

What happens from 1 April 2024?

This change will simplify the journey for Executive Club Members by aligning all Members to the same Tier Point Collection Year, making it easier to manage travel plans for yourself, colleagues and family.

For Tier Point collection periods starting on or before March 2024

There will be no change to how you earn Tier status and any status earned within this period will be valid for at least 12 months. Any existing status valid beyond 31 March 2025 will continue for the full duration.

For Tier Point collection periods starting from April 2024

There will be some changes to transition all Executive Club Members onto the new Tier Point Collection Year, while giving them the opportunity to renew or upgrade their status during this period:

  1. The Tier Point Collection Year will be shortened to end on 31 March 2025; and
  2. A Tier Point Adjustment will be added to your Executive Club account during your new Tier Point Collection Year.

If you earn enough Tier Points during your Tier Point Collection Year to upgrade or renew your Tier status, this will be valid until 30 April 2026 (new Membership Card Expiry date).

Example

Your current Tier Point collection period starts on 9 July 2023 and ends on 8 July 2024.

Your Tier Point Collection Year resets on 8 July 2024, meaning that your next Tier Point Collection Year starts on 9 July 2024 and ends on 31 March 2025 instead of 8 July 2025.

The Tier Points you earned between 1 April 2024 and 8 July 2024 will contribute to your overlapping qualification periods and will be applied as a Tier Point Adjustment.

During the transition, to recognise a full year of earning Tier Points on flights to achieve your Tier status, we'll award you the Tier Point Adjustment. This is calculated by adding up the Tier Points you earned between 1 April 2024 and 8 July 2024.

No, there will be no change to:

  • Your current Tier status. For example, if your current status expires on 30 June 2025, this will not be affected
  • The benefits you receive according to your Tier status
  • The way you can renew or upgrade your status during your Tier Point collection period ending on or before 8 March 2025

Any Tier status earned in your next Tier Point collection period ending on 31 March 2025 will be valid until 30 April 2026.

Tier Point Adjustment example

This example shows how the Tier Point Adjustment will work and how your Tier Points will be counted during the transition period.

This means your Tier status from April 2025 will be based on 12 months of Tier Points, no matter when your Tier Point Collection Year ends. 

 

For a Member whose current Collection Year ends on 8 May 2024:

Collection period: 9 May 2024 to 31 March 2025

Your next Tier Point collection period, which is shorter than usual

Tier Point Adjustment: 1 April 2024 to 8 May 2024

We count any Tier Points earned in this period

Collection period + Tier Point Adjustment

= your Tier status until 30 April 2026

How your Tier Point Collection Year will change

The way the transition period affects you depends on when your Tier Point Collection Year currently ends.

To find out which month it ends in:

  • On BA.com, log into your account, visit the My Account page, and scroll to the section showing your progress to the next tier
  • On the British Airways app, visit the My Account page and scroll to the bottom
  • Your current Tier Point Collection Year will continue as normal until 8 January 2025. The status you achieve during this period will expire on 28 February 2026
  • Your next collection period will be 9 January - 31 March 2025
  • Tier Point Adjustment: we'll add on any Tier Points you earn during 1 April 2024 - 8 January 2025 to work out your Tier status
  • Any Tier status you earn during the transition period (i.e. your next tier point collection period which starts on 9 January 2025 and is shortened to end 31 March 2025, with the Tier point adjustment applied) will expire on 30 April 2026
  • Your current Tier Point Collection Year will continue as normal until 8 February 2025. The status you achieve during this period will expire on 31 March 2026
  • The following collection period will be 9 February - 31 March 2025
  • Tier Point Adjustment: we'll add on any Tier Points you earn during 1 April 2024 - 8 February 2025 to work out your Tier status
  • Any Tier status you earn during the transition period (i.e. your next tier point collection period which starts on 9 February 2025 and is shortened to end 31 March 2025, with the Tier point adjustment applied) will expire on 30 April 2026
  • Your current Tier Point Collection Year will continue as normal until 8 March 2025. The status you achieve during this period will expire on 30 April 2026

How will the Tier Point Adjustment work?

Yes, if you earn enough Tier Points and meet the number of minimum eligible flights to renew or upgrade, this will happen automatically.

The credit of Tier Points will be applied 14 days after the start of your next Tier Point collection period. This will be presented in your BA Executive Club Statement as a Tier Point Adjustment (Tier Point Collection Year Change).

We'll also provide a notification on your account statement page confirming that the credit has been applied.

Eligible Tier Point activity that was posted within 7 days after your Tier Collection Period end date will be part of the original award.

Any Tier Points that weren't included as part of the original Tier Point Adjustment credit, will automatically be added by a further Tier Point Adjustment approximately 1 month after the original Tier Point Adjustment. Please be aware that our contact centres will not be able to add any Tier Points you believe are missing to your account.

Log in to your British Airways Executive Club account on BA.com or via the BA app.

In your account, you can view your current Tier Points and scroll down to view your Tier progression tracker. This shows how many Tier Points you've earned in your current Tier Point Collection Year and your current Tier Point Collection Year end date.

To view Tier Points earned in previous Tier Point Collection Years, click on ‘My Statement’ and filter by date range and transaction type.

No, your Tier Point Adjustment won't be added to your Lifetime Tier Points. Lifetime Tier Points are accumulated once for each eligible flight, meaning they'll only be credited into your lifetime balance once.

The way Members earn Tier Points through flying with British Airways, our oneworld partners and the Tier Points required to reach each Tier are not impacted by this change.

Tier Points are awarded based on the date of your flight, so any tickets flown after the 1 April 2024 will contribute to your current Tier Point collection period along with the new defined period between 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, and will be counted as part of the Tier Point Adjustment.

There will be no changes to the way Members earn status. If you don't earn enough Tier Points to retain your Tier status, your status will be updated at the end of your Membership card expiry date.

We'll look back at the full 12-month period from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 to determine the status you hold in the next membership year.

If you don't meet the required Tier Points to maintain your status you'll be downgraded from 1 May 2025.

Yes, any British Airways Holidays bonus Tier Points awarded between 1 April 2024 and the end of your Tier Point collection period that started on or before March 2024 will be included.

Yes, Tier Points awarded as part of the American Express Premium Plus campaign (ending 20 May 2024) between 1 April 2024 and the end of your Tier Point collection period that started on or before March 2024 will be included.

Avios, vouchers and Membership

No, we're changing the dates of the Tier Point Collection Year for all Executive Club Members. There's no change to how Members collect Avios through flying with British Airways or oneworld partners.

Any membership status achieved during this period will have a Membership card expiry date of 30 April 2026. After 2026, all Membership expiry dates will be 30 April.

If you've already registered and tracked a flight against your Executive Club account, there won't be any additional changes over and above those detailed here.

If you're still within 12 months of your joining date and are yet to register and track your first flight, any flights tracked after 29 February 2024 will no longer extend your current Tier Point collection period.

You can find your Tier Point Collection Year end date by logging in to your British Airways Executive Club account on BA.com or via the BA app.

In your account, you can view your current Tier Points and scroll down to view your Tier progression tracker. This shows how many Tier Points you've earned in your current Tier Point Collection Year and your current Tier Point Collection Year end date.

Every Member’s Tier Point Collection Year end date will run from 1 April each year. For any new Members who join after such date, the collection period will run from the day of joining until 31 March.
