Flights to Lapland

Flights from London Gatwick to Ivalo take around four hours, while flights to Rovaniemi take approximately three hours 30 minutes.

Lapland is a popular winter destination and while prices will vary throughout this period, you may find it’s cheaper to fly outside of the peak Christmas and New Year dates.

Prices in Finland can be high, particularly in Lapland's popular ski resorts and holiday villages. However, you'll find restaurants, bars and activities to suit a range of budgets, and travelling outside of the Christmas season can help reduce costs. Santa Claus Village is open year-round, so families can still enjoy the festive magic outside of December. 

While winter activities such as sledding and skiing come at an extra cost, many of Lapland's highlights are completely free. Explore the region's stunning Arctic landscapes and, if the skies are clear, watch for the Northern Lights – one of nature's most spectacular displays. 

Ivalo Airport is just 10 minutes from the village centre by taxi. If you're travelling on to Saariselka, taxis and buses are available, with journey times of around 30 minutes. 

From Rovaniemi Airport, the city centre is around 10 minutes away by taxi. A direct bus service also operates between the airport and the city centre, with a journey time of approximately 14 minutes.

Citizens of the UK and Ireland and EU passport holders do not need a visa to visit Finland. Due to Lapland Ivalo Airport’s limited facilities, all passengers must use stairs to board and disembark the aircraft. If you use a wheelchair or need help with stairs, the trained airport team will assist you on and off the aircraft using a manual lifting chair.
