Find out what flights were affected

What were the dates of the strike action?

Unite, the trade union that represents the majority of British Airways (BA) cabin crew, took strike action on the following dates:

  • 24 to 28 May
  • 30 May to 3 June
  • 5 to 9 June

Flights were also disrupted on 29 May and 4 June

London City and London Gatwick airports were unaffected.

BA Cityflyer and flights operated by our franchise, codeshare and oneworld partners operated as normal.

Can I claim compensation because of the strike?

We will comply with our passenger care obligations (e.g. reasonable provision of meals, hotel accommodation etc. as appropriate) under European regulation 261/04. This categorises industrial action as 'extraordinary circumstances', which means that BA is not obliged to pay compensation.

Options for changing your booking

If I cancelled my booking to get a refund, how long does the refund take after the booking was cancelled?

Due to the increase in requests at the moment, your refund will take up to 21 days to be processed.

I booked with British Airways during the strike period and I prepaid excess baggage, will I get a refund?

If your flight was cancelled and you prepaid for your excess baggage, you will have various options to choose from:

  • If you refunded your booking, your excess baggage will be automatically refunded.
  • If you rebooked to another date, you should have booked and paid for your excess baggage again, as the original payment would have been automatically refunded when you changed your flight booking.

I booked with British Airways during the strike period and I paid for my seat selection, will I get a refund?

If you paid for your seat selection in advance, you can have this payment refunded if your flight was cancelled.

You will need to claim your payment back using the online form, as it is not automatically refunded when your booking is cancelled.

Refund your payment for a seat reservation

Your policy says I can rebook my BA holiday outside the strike period, free of charge, on a like for like basis - what does that mean?

Rebookings should be on the same basis as your original booking e.g. same hotel, same car type, same board basis, same duration, same flight and same booking class. Any difference in price as a result of rebooking on a different basis (e.g. seven nights instead of six) will be refunded or charged to you as applicable.
