How it works
Using your Avios
On Business is our global loyalty programme for small and medium-sized businesses
Where relevant you will see special offers and other local information appropriate to the country that you select as your home country.
When you have enough Avios, you can start spending them on flights and upgrades. You can fly anywhere with British Airways and our partner airlines to a wide range of destinations. And with a scale of payment options, it’s never been easier to find your perfect flight.
The price you pay for your flight will depend on which zone your destination is in and you can choose to pay full Avios or a combination of Avios & Money. In addition to the full Avios or Avios & Money prices you will also need to pay taxes, fees and carrier charges unless you are purchasing a reward flight saver booking. A destination’s zone depends on the distance between the departure city and the destination city. The further away a destination is, the higher the zone. The table below shows the full Avios price, and where shown, the additional taxes, fees and carrier charges, for a return flight for each zone.
For zones 1 to 3 you will either pay taxes, fees and carrier charges or a reward flight saver fee, depending on the carrier and your own eligibility. For zones 4-9 you will pay taxes, fees and carrier charges. Each of these charges is explained below.
The taxes, fees and carrier charges vary according to travel date, carrier and route flown, and the amounts, where shown, are the highest actual amounts charged across all routes and carriers in each zone to date. The actual taxes, fees and carrier charges amount for your selected flight will be calculated when you book your flights, and should be equal to or lower than the amount if shown in the table. The amounts are based on today’s currency conversion rates.
Reward flight saver gives you a better deal on shorter flights. It's available on all British Airways routes within zones 1-3, as long as you’ve collected at least one Avios within the last 12 months.
You pay with Avios plus a flat fee of £35/€42 return in economy and £50/€60 return in business, and we pay the taxes, fees and carrier charges. To take advantage of this deal you need to select Reward Flight Saver on both your outbound and return journeys.
You can also pay with fewer Avios and more money, depending on how many Avios you want to spend. The flat fee is included in the total amount you pay, so you won’t see it listed separately. You’ll see all the Avios & Money options at the point you need to pay for your reward booking, or you can get a quick quote now using our calculator.
If you are travelling on a Comair route in Zones 1 to 3 you pay with Avios, plus a flat fee of £56/ZAR700 in economy and £64/ZAR800 in business, and we pay the taxes, fees and charges. You will need to book reward flight saver on both your outbound and return journey.

There is a scale of payment options, so you can pay with fewer Avios and more money, depending on how many Avios you want to spend. The taxes, fees and charges will always need to be paid with money.

British Airways has partnerships with a number of other airlines, which means you can use your Avios to fly to even more destinations.
Our oneworld® partners
Our other airline partners
When you search for reward flights we'll show you availability on British Airways first.
We'll show you availability on partners when we don't operate to a destination or we don't have availability, as long as you choose to include partners in your selection. The number of Avios required for partner flights may vary from British Airways, depending on the route and distance travelled.
Our calculator will show you the Avios cost of flights with British Airways and our partners for journeys with up to one connection.
For flights with two or more oneworld partners, or British Airways plus two or more oneworld partners, use our table to find out what you need to pay.
For assistance booking with a specific partner, please call your local service centre.
You can use Avios to upgrade to the next cabin when you make a cash booking with British Airways, Iberia or American Airlines, although the next cabin varies by airline and route. Upgrades are dependent on the type of booking you have and there must be availability in the class you want to upgrade to.
The amount of Avios needed to upgrade is based on the Avios price for a flight in the cabin you wish to upgrade from (the 'base Avios').
Upgrades are available from the following booking classes:
Calculate your base fare
How to find your fare class
1Applies to upgrades from Euro Traveller to Club Europe on British Airways; American Airlines and Iberia bookings.
2Applies to upgrades on American Airlines bookings only.
Bookings made through your travel agent can now be upgraded on ba.com or through your local Executive Club service centre. The flights you would like to upgrade must be booked and ticketed in eligible booking classes, however Bulk Tour (BT) and Inclusive Tour (IT) fare types are not eligible.
Please contact your travel agent to check if you have an eligible booking before visiting Manage My Booking to upgrade your flight.
Use our book and upgrade form and remember to select the class of travel you wish to upgrade from, not the class you want to upgrade to.
If you’ve already made a booking, paid for with cash, then you can upgrade using Avios through Manage My Booking. You cannot upgrade an existing reward flight booking.
