Pragelato is an idyllic village, sitting at the foot of the imposing Mount Albergian, in Italy's Piedmont region. This is a ski resort of true luxury, offering sumptuous local cuisine, superb liqueurs and Ramie di Pomaretto wine. The slopes provide enough terrain for a good weekend and keen skiers will easily find more to satisfy their appetite by taking an eight minute' cable car ride to the heart of the Milky Way ski area - one of the most picturesque and challenging ski regions in the world. Pragelato was host to both the cross-country and ski jump events at the Winter Olympics in 2006 and offers first class facilities for both. Whatever your discipline, you will be surrounded by panoramic views of incomparable beauty. Pragelato is a stunning mountain resort, ideal for those looking for a quiet skiing break or a peaceful family holiday.
Instructors who speak English are at your disposal; all are highly qualified and cater for all levels. Some of the local Pragelato slopes are quite steep for the complete beginner but there are some very steady runs through the woodland that will help your confidence improve.
Pragelato has 30 miles of local downhill trails, including 12 red pistes. The slopes offer wonderful free-flowing terrain, allowing you to coast down the pistes and gain confidence to tackle more difficult runs. The fast cable-car access to the Milky Way circuit means that a wealth of intermediate cruising is close by.
Pragelato has just one black piste, so advanced skiers will need to be prepared to head to nearby Sestriere for more challenges. A guide is recommended to help you explore the excellent off-piste around the Milky Way.
Pragelato Village Resort has a kids club with both an outdoor and indoor play area. Children from just a few months to 12 years old can be cared for from 9am to 7pm. The local ski schools offer programmes for children and English-speaking tutors are plentiful in Pragelato.
Relaxation is a key pastime in Pragelato and that extends to the après ski as well. Nightlife is low-key and ideal for young families. This small village has just six bars and 14 restaurants, several of which are located in the Pragelato Village Resort. Nearby Sestriere offers more lively après ski, though staying in Pragelato offers the opportunity to sample the sumptuous Piedmont cuisine. Wonderful, rich dishes such as Gofri, Cagliette and Pilot are rewarding after a long day of skiing.
