Ski holidays in Bad Aussee

Ski Bad Aussee
Overview

Great for

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate

Situated in the beautiful Salzkammergut area, amid a network of lakes in the Valley of Traun, Bad Aussee has been a spa resort since 1868. The healing salt waters of Vital Bad provide the perfect place to relax whilst surrounded by the peaks of the Loser and the Dachstein Glacier. More recently, it has also begun to gain notoriety as a winter destination. Cross-country skiing on the three excellent, man-made, Loipen is highly recommended. A huge total of 200 kilometres of cross-country skiing is available here. Enjoy skiing along the tree lined undulating runs, across meadows and through woods. Bad Aussee offers the opportunity to combine smaller piste areas with rejuvenating spa treatments and stunning alpine scenery.

Beginners

Salzkammergut has good snowfall an above average proportion of beginner pistes. The small size of the ski area gives the pistes a friendly and familiar atmosphere. The Loser and Tauplitz downhill areas are also served by an excellent ski school which offers group tuition.

Intermediate

The surrounding pistes of Loser and Salzkammergut favour intermediate skiers. Around half of the pistes accessible from Bad Aussee are suitable for intermediates. The beautiful surroundings make for a wonderful setting to cruise down the slopes. Snowboarders will want to head to the floodlit terrain park and freestyle halfpipe in Loser.

Advanced

The high altitude provides for good quality snow, though the choice of more testing runs is limited. Experts would do well to hire a guide and ski some untracked, beautiful powder. Cross-country skiing, however, is well catered for and a superb way to see the stunning surrounding woods.

Families

Local ski schools offer group tuition for children. There is also a children's meadow, snowmobile circuit and Skikinderland in the Loser area, which are perfect for younger children who may not be ready for ski tuition and time on the slopes.

Après ski

Bad Aussee does not offer a large amount of entertainment, but certainly makes up for this with its magnificent setting. The array of natural unspoilt beauty of the mountains and the countryside is simply amazing. There are a couple of good restaurants and the local shops offer a variety of homemade handicraft from the Ausseerland, perfect for souvenirs. The relaxing natural spas should not be missed.

Non ski activities

  • Tennis (indoor & outdoor)
  • Fishing in the river Traun (one of the six best stretches of trout water in Europe
