Antigua restaurant districts
When it comes to Antigua's restaurants, you'll be spoiled for
choice among the renovated stone buildings which surround the marina at English
Harbour. Try Antiguan seafood favourites like red snapper and mahi-mahi or
fish and chips. In St John's, go to harbourside eateries to dine out
on Creole dishes or Antigua's national dish, fungi and pepperpot
thick vegetable stew.
Antigua restaurant tips
Most Antiguan restaurants open for lunch from noon, with dinner served from 6pm.
Smaller Antiguan restaurants close early if business is slow. If you want to eat at
a popular restaurant in Antigua's busy English Harbour, be sure to
book in advance. Expect to tip ten to 15% in restaurants, and don't get
upset if service is slow. Remember you're on Antigua's island
time.
Antigua bars
Have a pint of beer at old-fashioned bars along the quayside at English
Harbour in Antigua. Lively Dickinson Bay has music by steel bands and
Antiguan calypso singers every night of the week. Head to the casino in St
John's, which is open till the wee hours for late-night drinks and
a flutter. And at weekends, young local Antiguans and tourists groove to soca
(calypso) rhythms at nightclubs in the Antiguan capital.
