dine in the inner-city suburbs of Northbridge and Subiaco, both

First-time visit
Start your day with a look at the dramatic Aboriginal artworks in the Art Gallery
of Western Australia in the city centre. Learn about Perth's
colonial history at the nearby Western Australian Museum, then get the spin
on its brewing history at the Old Brewery. Pack a picnic and follow the steep
Jacob's Ladder steps leading up to Kings Park to relax in
virgin bushland in the middle of the city.
Return visit
Meander along the grassy walkways lining the Swan River foreshore, then catch
a ferry heading down the river to Fremantle. Visit its maritime-themed
museums, photograph its fine collection of colonial-era architecture, then kick back
at a cafe on the Cappuccino Strip. Travel up the coast to the Aquarium of
Western Australia to watch seals frolicking and sharks swimming above you as
you walk through underwater tunnels. Or get out of town and tour the Swan
Valley vineyards. Pack your snorkel and take a ferry over to Rottnest
Island, half an hour offshore and home to quokkas, cute pint-sized
wallabies.
