Liquids and Duty Free Goods in Hand Baggage - New

Duty Free Goods for passengers transferring at London Heathrow or Gatwick

Baggage.

With effect from 20 April 2009 Turkey will introduce liquid limitations in hand baggage matching the EU standard.

Passengers departing from Turkey (BA operate from IST, ADB and AYT) will be allowed to carry only limited quantities of certain liquids, gels and pastes. (These may include shampoo, creams, hair gel, hair spray, suntan lotions, toothpaste, liquid or aerosol deodorants, perfumes, cosmetics such as mascara and lip-gloss, water and other drinks, soups and syrups and other items of a similar consistency).

Duty free goods containing liquids purchased at airside duty free shops in Turkey may not be taken through transfer security points at other EU airports.

Duty free liquid items purchased onboard EU airlines can be taken through transfer security points at other EU airports providing that ‘no more stringent measures’ apply.

Items must be placed in a 'tamper-evident' bag with the receipt attached to the bag or placed inside so that it is easily readable.

The bag must remain sealed until the passenger has reached their final destination. Any bag that is opened prior to this is liable to be confiscated at the security checkpoint.

  • Liquids must be in individual containers with a capacity of no more than 100ml (3.5 fl.oz.)
  • All containers must be carried in a separate clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag of maximum dimensions 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in) or equivalent to 1 litre capacity.
  • Items must fit comfortably inside the bag and the bag must be completely closed.
  • The plastic bag must fit inside the passenger's hand baggage.
  • At the airport security search the plastic bag must be removed from the hand baggage and x-rayed separately.

Advanced Passenger Information UK Requirements From 4 March 2009

Couple checking in.

From 4 March 2009, the UK Government will require Advance Passenger Information to be provided when travelling to and from Turkey.

Advance Passenger Information means providing certain information to the authorities before passengers travel, such as passport details and, where necessary, contact information. This can be completed through Manage My Booking or when travellers check in online at ba.com.

This information is compulsory and is required for the purposes of ensuring aviation safety and security.

Below is a list of the information required:

  • Full given names
  • Surname
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • Travel document number e.g. passport number
  • Travel document expiry date
  • Travel document country of issue

In order to minimise unnecessary delays at the airport, it is essential that, all travellers provide the API prior to travelling to the airport:

Pre Airport:

1. BA.com – This can be done by logging onto ba.com with the booking reference number and entering the information through the ‘manage my booking’ page.

2. Travel Agent - All your travellers API can be collected when making the booking with your travel agent prior to travel.

At the Airport

Staff at Check-in kiosks will be able to collect API data but customers are strongly advised to supply the information prior to arrival at the airport or at a check-in kiosk where available, providing customers hold a machine readable passport.
