Following an announcement by the UK Department for Transport that it has given approval to a number of UK airports to remove the one-bag restriction of hand baggage, British Airways has reintroduced its two-piece cabin bag allowance for passengers departing London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Jersey or Manchester.

This means that all customers departing or transferring through London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Jersey, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle or Manchester will be able to carry two pieces of hand luggage through security from this date.

The one-bag restriction  remains in place at Newquay airport. This airport is expected to remove restrictions in line with the new UK Department for Transport guidelines in due course.

Restrictions on the quantity of liquids allowed through security search remain in place. Customers must ensure that all liquid containers do not exceed 100ml and are carried in a clear, resealable plastic bag that can be easily closed.

Other security restrictions also remain in place, such as the requirement for laptops and shoes to be screened separately.

British Airways hand baggage allowance is:
* One bag no bigger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22 inches x 17.5 inches x 9.85 inches) (including wheels, pockets and handles)
* In addition, one briefcase or laptop sized bag
* A 23KG max bag weight applies and the customer must be able to lift the bag into the overhead locker in the aircraft cabin unaided.
