Discover Jersey's old-world charm watching colourful fishing boats drifting in to Gorey's harbour. Look up and you'll see the dramatic 13th-century Mount Orgueil castle. Then head inland to explore the vineyards of La Mare and meet cider makers in Hamptonne. For buzzing nightlife and elegant dining, visit Jersey's capital St Helier.
A British Crown dependency off the coast of France, Jersey is influenced by both countries. Follow the cliff path along the north coast to the secluded fishing village of Rozel Bay. Or explore medieval Mount Orgueil castle, towering over the harbour of Gorey on the east coast. Soak up the sun at pretty St Brelade's Bay, one of the golden sandy beaches along Jersey's south coast. Then try adventure sports along western St Ouen's windswept coast.
St Helier, the island's capital and tax-free shopping hub, is the only town on Jersey. Visit the Jersey Museum to see a recreation of a 250,000-year-old archaeological site. Then call into the Occupation Tapestry Gallery to learn about German-occupied Jersey during the Second World War. Go even further back in time at St Helier's Norman Town Church. At night, sample local sea-bass served with Jersey Royal potatoes in elegant restaurants.
You can unravel Jersey's past by exploring the Napoleonic defences of Greve de Lecq on the north coast. Or head inland to visit the vineyards of La Mare, Jersey's only wine estate. Join a guided 'moonwalk' across ribbed sands for a closer look at seaweed and marine life in the salty rock pools of La Rocque in the south-east. If you're after an active holiday, hire a bike and cycle along the 50 miles of green lanes which cross Jersey's inland countryside, stopping at Hamptonne for a glass of locally made cider or a Jersey cream tea.
Jersey Airport flies 1.5 million passengers a year from its single terminal. The island's capital and cultural centre, St Helier, is just five miles or a 20-minute drive away.
