The biggest of its type in the world, it has 65 labyrinthine streets with over 4,000 shops, baths, mosques and teahouses. You can buy anything here.
Istanbul is also full of great restaurants. Turkish meals are traditionally served as a succession of small tasting plates in restaurants called meyhane. Kebabs, baklava, stuffed vegetables and wraps are all popular in Turkish cuisine, as are traditional simit bagels and borek pastries. Ask the staff at your hotel where to find the best meyhane restaurants.
