Start at the Forbidden City, not far from our hotels in Beijing. This was China's Imperial Palace during the Ming, Shun and Qing dynasties. Besides the magnificent palaces and courtyards, it also contains a huge range of Chinese art and artefacts.
Visit the beautiful Temple of Heaven - highly recommended. This is a taxi ride from our hotels in Beijing. A stunning, colourful, rounded pagoda, the Temple of Heaven is surrounded by a vast public park and peaceful woods. Alternatively, head to the Houhai area and walk along the shores of Houhai Lake. Our hotels will have many other suggestions if you want to get off the normal tourist trail.
Then there's the shopping. Many of our hotels in Beijing are handy for exploring Beijing's finest shopping areas, which sell both Western and local brands. You can also try the Clothing Market or the Silk Market, but remember that haggling is central to retail therapy, Beijing style.
