Holidays in Puerto Rico

A tropical, Caribbean island, Puerto Rico has miles of beautiful beaches, acres of verdant rainforest and a vibrant capital – San Juan. The island’s rich indigenous history, eventful Spanish colonial past and close ties with the USA have created a true “melting pot” of cultures and languages. Holidays in Puerto Rico are great fun for all – families, couples, groups or single travellers.

Sightseeing on holidays in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is relatively small and very diverse – ideal for an eclectic holiday. You could stroll amongst the pastel buildings of Old San Juan, explore nature reserves in tropical rainforests and watch the sun set over the idyllic Coco Beach – all in the same day.

You’ll experience a wonderful multiculturalism on every day of your break in Puerto Rico. Plaza las Americas is the largest shopping mall in the Caribbean, and a nod to North American consumer culture. The beautiful St Mary Magdalene Cemetery pays homage to Puerto Rico’s Spanish-Catholic influences. Alternatively, you can enjoy more simple pleasures on a tour of a local rum distillery – a classic Caribbean tipple.

Puerto Rico beach holidays

Puerto Rico is fringed with countless sandy beaches. Some are vibrant and popular, lined with restaurants and bars. Others are tranquil and secluded – perfect for relaxing after your flight.

Condado Beach and Ocean Park Beach attract those who come to Puerto Rico looking for a fun, lively break. Beach activities and water sports are in plentiful supply. Vibrant restaurants, bars and discos line the streets around here.

If you want a more tranquil holiday in Puerto Rico – head to the nearby islands of Mona or Vieques. Both are dedicated nature reserves, and have some idyllic beaches. You’ll feel a world away from the music and colour of San Juan.
Puerto Rico is also a fantastic place for surfing holidays. The beaches in the Rincon region, for example, are a windsurfer’s paradise.

Puerto Rico dining and nightlife

Puerto Rico is livelier than any other Caribbean island. This is a party island – live music and dancing are easily found, especially in San Juan.

The Condado Beach area is home the majority of Puerto Rico’s bars, nightclubs and restaurants. This is a great place to come to party into the night. You’ll also find a great variety of world cuisine and seafood here.

Plaza del Marcado is filled with locals on a Thursday and Friday night. Puerto Ricans are friendly, fun-loving and proud of their island. This is a great place to come and experience local culture and cuisine.
