This pretty town is perfectly placed for daytrips around the Savoie region. Visit the nearby spa town of Aix les Bains. Here you can soothe yourself in thermal baths, and take in view of the stunning Lac du Bourget. Closer by is the Musée de Charmettes. This is the former home of the philosopher Rousseau – and is located 2km south of Chambery.
Dining in Chambery
Chambery is the capital of the Savoie region, home to a very unique culture and cuisine. Place St-Léger is the best place to head to at night. You’ll find plenty of restaurants here that serve Savoyard specialities – don’t miss the chance to sample the tartiflette and raclette.
Chambery is home to a vermouth made of fine wines and botanicals found in the Alpine meadows above the town. Sample this, and a Chartreuse drink produced by monks in a nearby distillery.
