Rosewood Tucker's Point

Rosewood Tucker's Point

****

Regally seated above the dusty rose-pink beaches of Castle Harbour and Harrington Sound is Rosewood Tucker's Point hotel, a luxury seaside retreat in Britain’s oldest colony, Bermuda. Sure, you’ll catch familiar sights from the UK –a bobby directing traffic or a heated cricket match – but this sun-splashed island is decidedly tropical, moving to the rhythms of calypso and reggae.

Highlights:

  • Island’s only private hotel beach

  • Four distinct pools

  • Spectacular spa

In the know

Also need to know:

The hotel is completely non-smoking. Several suites in the Manor House will accommodate mobility-impaired guests, and there are elevators as well as ramps throughout the property. Be sure to make appointments in advance for your restorative Bermuda Triangle or rejuvenating Atlantic Sea Spray treatment at the Sense Spa. This sprawling 111sq m spa with private pool and a proper barber shop for men, is the island’s most luxurious relaxation retreat.

Packing tips:

There's no need to grapple with the logistics of lugging golf clubs or tennis racquets, the resort has top-of-the-line gear available to rent during your stay.

Dress code:

Collared shirts and long trousers (sorry, no Bermuda shorts) are required for men and jackets are recommended at the Point. Ladies shouldn’t hold back on unveiling their resort wear line of designer dresses and shoes.

Dining information

Restaurant:

The hotel has two restaurants, The Point and Sul Verde, which are open year-round, in addition to the seasonal (April to October) Sur Mer bistro at the beach club. The Point, styled with fine antiques and massive murals of 19th-century ships and ports that once hung in New York’s Pan Am building, is the most formal. Chef Guido Brambilla creates multi-course menus (expertly matched with selections from the wine room) that reflect global cuisine – spiny Bermuda lobster, roasted beef tenderloin, pan roasted Atlantic cod – as inspired by the international ports depicted on the walls of the candlelit dining room. Feast on rustic Italian cuisine such as house-made pastas and classic veal and seafood specialties at Sul Verde, and French Provençal dishes – duck confit and moules frites – at Sur Mer, just steps from the ocean.

Top table:

On a still evening when the stars crowd the sky, opt to dine alfresco. Gaze out over placid Harrington Bay at the Point, meditate on the rolling greens at Sul Verde and spy the surf at Sur Mer.

Last orders:

The Point: breakfast 7am to 11am; lunch 12noon to 3pm; dinner 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Sul Verde: lunch 12noon to 3pm; snacks 3pm to 6pm; dinner 6pm to 9pm. Sur Mer: lunch 12noon to 3pm, snacks 3pm to 5pm and dinner 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

Room service:

Dial up room service whenever the craving for a juicy cheeseburger, classic club or wrap sandwich strikes; it's open 24-hours a day.

Hotel bar:

A world of dark wood paneling, deep leather armchairs, maritime prints and models of tall ships, Tucker’s Bar is a handsome lounge worthy of a top-brass admiral. Set adjacent to the Point restaurant and overlooking the Palm Court Pool, it’s just the spot for cooling off with a dark and stormy (made with local Gosling’s rum, of course) and a tasty bar snack or more substantial bite, like the soy ginger marinated and blackened Gombey burger or Caesar salad. The bar is open 11am to 11pm.
