Travelling with food allergies

We're passionate about our food and work hard to ensure the meals you enjoy with us are prepared to the highest standard and with the finest ingredients. That includes providing a wide range of special meal options to cater for many food sensitivities and clear labelling of all our meals. However, traces of some ingredients may still be present in our meals and we are unable to guarantee an environment completely free from allergens.

See the table below for information on specific food types in our meals.

Our use of common food allergens

IngredientOn-board usage
PeanutsOur in-flight meals do not contain peanuts or peanut products. However, we cannot guarantee meals and snacks are completely peanut free as they may be produced at a facility that handles peanuts. We are therefore unable to offer a peanut-free special meal.

Peanuts may be used in snacks in our British Airways airport lounges.
Tree nutsTree nuts, such as walnuts and cashews, may be offered as part of our in-flight menu.
DairyWe offer a low lactose special meal which excludes cheese, dairy products and their derivatives and lactose or milk products. In addition, our vegan vegetarian meal is completely dairy free.
SeafoodThere is generally at least one option available on board that does not include seafood. In addition, all of our vegetarian meals are completely free of seafood.
GlutenWe offer a low gluten meal that excludes wheat or wheat flour, barley oats and rye, bread, cakes (unless wheat free), pastry, sausages or any flour based products.
Other food sensitivities and combinationsUnfortunately, we are unable to provide tailored meals on request — this includes any requirements not explicitly covered by our special meals, as well as combinations of special requirements.

We advise all passengers with dietary requirements that we cannot meet to provide their own food, bearing in mind that all food transported through security or immigration will be subject to local rules.

Clear food labelling

All of our meals are clearly labelled to indicate if they contain any ingredients that are defined as allergens by the EU. However, owing to the nature of the ingredients and processes used in our kitchens, we cannot guarantee that our meals will be free from traces of any allergen.

On-board environment

While we restrict the use of some products in our catering and supply a range of special meals, other passengers may bring their own snacks and food containing those products on board. Our crew are unable to make announcements or alert other passengers to individual medical conditions.
