A world of treasures
Named after its main benefactor, Mitchell Wolfson, the walls of this Spanish mission-style building enclose an impressive collection of modern decorative arts from 1885 to 1945.
The Wolfsonian Museum of Art and Design was founded in 1986, with the main purpose of exhibiting, documenting and preserving the vast collection of glass, furniture and furnishings, ceramics, metalwork, commemorative medallions and plates, and graphic design that belonged to Mitchell Wolfson.
Exhibitions
The museum puts on regular exhibitions that highlight different areas of the huge collection which documents life in a period of accelerated change and expansion in technology and taste. So whether you want to discover how graphic and book design has changed over the last 100 years, or have a particular interest in glassware, furniture or ceramics, this is one museum you shouldn't miss.
Worth knowing
In 1997 the museum became a division of Florida International University (FIU), when Wolfson donated his collection and museum facility to the university - the largest gift ever contributed to a public university in Florida.
