Come on in, the water’s lovely

The focus of any Florida Keys activity holiday has to be watersports. Whether it’s sailing on the crystal clear waters, experiencing the adrenaline rush of kiteboarding or snorkelling and fishing around the coral reef that floats your boat, this is one holiday destination that’s perfect for water babies.

Snorkelling and diving

Diving underwater.

The Florida Keys are home to North America’s only living-coral barrier reef. With its breathtaking array of colours and marine life including dolphins, loggerhead turtles and countless species of brightly coloured fish, it’s no surprise that the Florida Keys reefs are thought of as some of the world’s most beautiful. And the best way to see them? On a snorkelling or scuba diving trip, of course. Why not add Safari Snorkel Adventure to your Florida Keys activity holiday itinerary? The trip departs from Key West and includes captaining your own speedboat.

Fishing

You’re in great company if you choose to add fishing to your list of must do activities on your holiday in the Florida Keys. Ernest Hemingway fished for giant blue marlin here while the author and keen fisherman Zane Grey caught sailfish and tarpon. Experience big game, deep sea fishing for yourself by chartering a boat complete with a local guide. Stick to the flats for tarpon and bonefish or try a night fishing trip to the coral reefs where you can find snapper and grouper.

Kiteboarding.

Wakeboarding and kiteboarding

No Florida Keys activity holiday would be complete without trying out one of these exhilarating alternatives to surfing. Wakeboarding, also known as wakesurfing and freeboarding, is one of the fastest growing water sports and was invented in Florida when Dick Pope, creator of Cypress Gardens, Florida’s first theme park, had the idea of towing a surf board behind a speedboat.

Alternatively let wind power your adrenaline rush with a spot of kiteboarding. If you fancy a more traditional water sport, there’ll also be plenty of opportunities for windsurfing during your Florida Keys holiday, and we also offer parasailing trips from Key West.

And for land lovers…

Back on dry land there are plenty more sporting activities to enjoy. Choose from idyllic days on the golf course or get back to nature with an eco bike tour of local sights.
