British Airways has frequent flights to Thessaloniki. Flights land at Thessaloniki
International Airport Macedonia, eight miles east of Thessaloniki city centre.
As you travel into Thessaloniki after your flight arrival, you'll get great
views over Thessaloniki's sparkling blue Thermaic Gulf. On a clear day
you can also spot Mount Olympus rising across the gulf south-west of
Thessaloniki, home of the ancient Greek gods.
Travel to/from central Thessaloniki
After your flights to Thessaloniki take bus 78 to Thessaloniki train station,
which lies half a mile from Thessaloniki city centre. The bus stop is outside flight
departures and the service runs every hour with a journey time of around 45 minutes.
For extra comfort, take a taxi, also from outside flight departures. Or if
you plan to tour the region while in Thessaloniki, pick up a hire car from
one of the companies based at Thessaloniki airport.
Best of Thessaloniki
Stretch your legs after your flights to Thessaloniki by exploring
Thessaloniki‘s compact city centre on foot. Follow Thessaloniki's
elegant seafront promenade from the main Aristotelous Square to the
beautifully laid-out Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. Then visit the
eighth-century Byzantine church of Ayia Sofia, decorated with glittering
golden mosaics. Enjoy a daytrip from Thessaloniki on the pine-scented sandy beaches
at Halkidiki. Before your flight home, spend a morning shopping for local
spices at Modiano, Thessaloniki's covered food market. Then work
your way around the bustling stalls at the domed Bezesteni bazaar for
Thessaloniki's best selection of woven textiles and jewellery.
