British Airways' flights to Salzburg touch down at Salzburg Airport, two
and a half miles west of Salzburg's city centre. When your flight lands at
Salzburg Airport, take a bus to central Salzburg where alpine views and a brisk walk
along the banks of the River Salzach will blow away the cobwebs. After your
flight, let your Salzburg trip unfold on Baroque Residenzplatz square, where
Salzburg's powder-wigged archbishops once strolled. Or pop into
Salzburg's oldest coffee house, early 18th-century Café
Tomaselli, for a slice of its famous crisp apple strudel.
Travel to/from central Salzburg
After your flight to Salzburg, take bus number 2 to Salzburg's
Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station). Buses leave roughly every ten minutes from 5.30am
to 11pm. From the station it's a 15-minute walk or short bus ride to
Salzburg's Altstadt (Old Town). If you're in a hurry when
your flights land in Salzburg, take a metered taxi from outside Flight
Arrivals. The journey into central Salzburg takes 20-30 minutes; allow extra time
during rush hour.
Best of Salzburg
Enjoy the relaxed pace of Salzburg's cobbled Baroque Altstadt after
your flight to Salzburg. Get up early for panoramic views of Salzburg without the
crowds at 900-year-old Hohensalzburg Fortress. Wander around Baroque
Residenzplatz square or whistle well-known tunes on a The Sound of
Music bicycle tour. After dark, take in a Mozart concert or sample
traditional schnitzel steak. Before catching return flights from Salzburg, pick up
souvenir Mozart T-shirts on Getreidegasse or nougat-filled Mozartkugel
chocolates that will leave you with a taste of Salzburg on your flight home.
