Book with British Airways from London Heathrow to see the sights of Beirut.
Once you land in to Beirut (BEY), taxis are freely available to take you to your destination. Use the taxis with the official airport logo as these are regulated by the airport authorities which means you'll be charged a standard fixed rate (usually around $20 depending on the number of passengers). Do be aware though that taxis aren't metered so agree your fare before you commence your journey and don't be afraid to haggle on price.
Nicknamed the ‘Pearl of the Middle East', downtown Beirut is famous for the Corniche, a picturesque seafront boulevard lined with palm trees and popular with cyclists, joggers and tourists. The astonishing view of the Mediterranean Sea will take your breath away. It's a sight to behold and the magnificent Saint George Bay, believed to be where the Christian martyr Saint George slew the dragon, is definitely not to be missed.
Make sure you visit the wonderful Souk el Barghout market at the Martyr's Place. Perfect for enjoying a leisurely Lebanese meal or just a spot of people watching, it's the hub of tourist activity in the city. The market itself is packed full of traditional crafts, jewellery and souvenirs but do make sure you're prepared to negotiate over the price; the Middle Eastern custom of haggling is welcomed by the friendly traders.
As more and more tourists are visiting Beirut every year you'll find that the locals are affable and helpful with a good command of the English language.
The past decade has seen some major reconstruction work and this beautiful city has a lively and flourishing social scene that's placed it as a must-visit destination.
Book your flights to Beirut and experience the diversity of the wonderful Middle Eastern culture.
