When you plan a trip with your family, there are many details that you need to get right to ensure a hassle free trip.
Find out how to take the first steps in planning your family's travel.

Infants: 0 - 23 months
You must always have a ticket for your infant's journey.
Children: 2 - 11 years
Infants who become children during travelling
If you're travelling with an infant who reaches the age of two during their journey, your child will need their own seat for any flights on and after their 2nd birthday.
However, there is no charge for this; you will still only pay the infant fare for the entire journey.
As your infant will only be required to have a seat for part of your trip, this can't be booked online, so contact us and we'll be pleased to help you.

We offer some discounts for infants and children on British Airways flights. However they do vary, so check your price quote on ba.com for full details.
The fare you pay for your infant will differ, depending on where your infant sits.
Sitting on an adult's lap - Infant fare
An infant fare is charged at 10% of the adult fare when the infant does not have his/her own seat, but sits on an adult’s lap.
A separate seat for your infant - Child fare
If you would like your infant to sit in his/her own seat (as long as they are between 6 and 23 months), you'll pay a child fare. This can't be booked online, so contact us and we'll be pleased to help you.

If you are travelling with more than one infant, and you'd like the infants to sit on the adults' lap, you'll need to have an adult to accompany each infant in the booking.
However, if you're travelling with two infants and at least one is aged between 6 and 23 months, you can buy one infant ticket and one child fare, as long as the second infant is sitting in an approved car seat.

If you'd like to make a booking for a child that has not yet been born, you only need to make your own booking, which you can do on ba.com.
After your baby is born, contact British Airways and we'll arrange for your baby's ticket to be issued.
If you will be flying soon after your baby's birth, please check with your treating doctor that they agreed to your baby travelling. Newborn infants must be at least 48 hours old before they can travel on British Airways.
You must always have a ticket for your infant's journey.

There are times when you might need to travel in a different cabin to your child, and you can do this on British Airways. If your child is already 12 years old, you can make your child's booking on ba.com.
If your child is between five and 12 years of age:
Please contact British Airways to make this booking if your child is under 12 years.
Please note:
Whilst we retain overall Duty of Care after your child has checked in for the flight, you will still be responsible for their health, well-being and behaviour, both on the ground and on board.
