London Gatwick Arrivals lounge closure
24 Oct 2013
We contstantly review the services we offer and as part of this process it has become apparent that there is very little demand for the Arrivals Lounge at London Gatwick Airport.
We have therefore decided to close the Arrivals Lounge at the end of October 2013. This will allow us to redirect the cost of maintaining the lounge and instead focus on other facilities at Gatwick during 2014 to improve your airport departure experience.
As soon as we have information on the plans for 2014 we will share these with you.

IRIS and Registered Traveller at London Heathrow
13 Sep 2013
The IRIS Border Control System will be closing Sunday 15 September in London Heathrow Terminal 3 and Monday 16 September in London Heathrow Terminal 5.
Due to the age of the system it is no longer economically viable to keep IRIS operational and the decision has therefore been taken by Border Force to decommission it.
The majority of IRIS users will still have convenient alternatives to the conventional border control process if they are:
- Travellers who are in possession of an EEA or UK biometric passport (the majority of IRIS users) via self service e-Passport gates, located at all terminals where IRIS was deployed.
- Non EU Travellers who have previously benefited from using IRIS and who are eligible* to use the new Registered Traveller Scheme which is due to commence on 24 September 2013. It will allow pre-approved travellers to gain expedited entry to the UK.
*Initially passengers meeting the following criteria will be able to apply for the Registered Traveller Scheme:
- previously registered to use IRIS;
- from the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia or New Zealand
- someone who has completed a minimum of four trips to the UK in the last 52 weeks
- a short term visitor to the UK aged over 18.
Eligible travellers will be able to apply and register online. Information will be made available from 24 September and a link provided on the current IRIS webpage:
The increasingly popular e-Passport gates are reliable and provide faster processing times for passengers compared to the conventional border control process. As a result, the number of e-Passport gates available in terminals will be increased later this year.
The Registered Traveller Scheme, which is initially available exclusively at London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports, will improve the way eligible regular visitors can pass through the UK Border.
Border Force are also working towards enhancing the e-Passport gates so that Registered Travellers with biometric passports will be able to use this option.
