Visit Durban city centre starting at the Tourist Junction and you'll stumble across Indian architecture and traders before reaching the Durban Art Gallery, home to fine displays of African arts and crafts. On the eastern side stretches the Golden Mile, drawing sunbathers and surfers to its sandy beach and warm waters. Continue south for the shark-rich uShaka Marine World. Or relax in the multimillion-Rand Wilson's Wharf waterfront complex with restaurants, shops, theatre and a marina, all with sea views. If you don't want to compromise the views but prefer the locals' company for dinner, head to the opposite end of the city to the elevated Berea district.
