What's new - One Destination

March 2009 - We achieved accreditation for our Carbon Offsetting Scheme

Customers can be even more confident their carbon offsetting is making a difference after British Airways' innovative scheme won approval from the government.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has launched the Carbon Offsetting Quality Assurance Scheme to help consumers easily identify carbon offsetting projects that offer genuine carbon savings. Companies need to demonstrate their projects are compliant with international standards to offer genuine, additional, measurable carbon savings. The scheme is being administered by climate change and energy consultancy AEA.

Carbon offsetting allows customers to compensate for emissions by helping fund projects that deliver an equivalent CO2 saving elsewhere. The approval marks another first for BA - not only was it the first airline to offer carbon offsetting but it is the first airline to win approval.

Achievements

December 2008 - One Destination launched

Responsible air travel means changing the way we do business forever and One Destination is a long-term programme enabling us to achieve this. We have been engaging colleagues across the business to ensure we all share the same vision.

"As an airline, a business, and a collective of responsible thinking people, we are committed to addressing the conflicts that exist between the future running of our company and the health of the world we live in.

We recognise that we have a paradox at the heart of our industry, one where our love of flying and our customers’ love of flying does not always sit harmoniously with the environment. We will lead the debate, galvanize the industry and work tirelessly with the community and our colleagues to do as much as we can to resolve this situation. Our sights are set on the day when everyone can feel good about flying because we are taking steps towards creating One Destination, Responsible Air Travel."

Martin Broughton,

Chairman British Airways
