Our work - South Africa youth development

 
Working in partnership with Charlton Athletic FC, children from Mitchells Plain Township, Cape Town learn football skills.

 For the last 7 years, British Airways has been a key partner in the development of a major youth diversion and safer schools project in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg and more recently in township communities in Cape Town and Durban.

Fast facts

  • Over 215 youth coaches have now been trained gaining the FA Level 1 Coaching Skills qualification with the help of Charlton FC.
  • Over 50,000 children have participated in the initiative.
  • The programme has gained support and funding from the British High Commission.

Workshops

   As part of the intiative, British Airways staff have run citizenship and health and wellbeing workshops which thousands of children have attended, whilst the Metropolitan Police have facilitated activities on personal safety.
