We are reviewing our procurement processes, to understand how to embed sustainable procurement into our supply chain process.
Over the next year we aim to integrate sustainable procurement more effectively into our existing processes. This will include holding workshops with our staff to engage them on the principles of responsible sourcing in order to provide them support in making their decisions.
We also recognise the importance of working in collaboration with our suppliers to deliver a responsible procurement strategy.
We will be holding joint workshops in order to ensure our key suppliers understand and help us deliver our objectives.
We have been actively encouraging our suppliers to pursue good environmental practices. In our construction contracts for T5 we implemented a strict materials strategy that involved:
Materials that did not conform to the strategy were only allowed to be used following a rigorous justification process.
Recycling and waste minimisation was a key part in our furniture contract in T5.
Our aircraft cleaning contracts, ground fleet maintenance contracts all contain strict environment conditions.
Our utilities contract – stipulated an energy manager, strict energy targets have been set for the management of our property portfolio.
We are committed to sourcing our products from sustainable suppliers wherever possible. As part of this ongoing drive we will be serving 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffee onboard all of our flights in all of our cabins.
The Rainforest Alliance is an international environmental organisation. Their mission is to protect ecosystems and the wildlife and people who depend on them. Farms that are Rainforest Alliance Certified™ have made improvements in the way the farm is managed including reducing pesticide use, improving worker safety, ensuring workers have decent housing and access to clean water, as well as education and medical care for themselves and their families. Wildlife and water, forests and soils must also be protected.
This move underlines our commitment to responsible sourcing and respecting our environment, and we will continue to research and implement further such measures in the near future.
