Measuring efficiency - non-CO₂ effects

Whilst research has given us a solid understanding of the effect that CO2 generated by flying has on the environment, the climate impact of our NOx emissions and other effects is currently less well understood.

At British Airways, we are committed to improving scientific understanding of these non-CO2 effects. We are a partner in the European Union project 'IAGOS' which aims to develop measurement of atmospheric chemistry.

A scientific review which we commissioned recently has found that simple mulitiplier factors should not be used to represent non-CO2 effects as they overstate the total impact of aircraft emissions.
