One Destination

We have led the way in developing ambitious targets to reduce climate change emissions in aviation with a cap on net emissions by 2020 and a 50% cut by 2050.  The aviation industry is united in recommending governments adopt these targets at a global level.

Aviation emissions need to be regulated by a single global agreement between governments. This would mean all airlines would be treated equally, and also avoid uncoordinated regional and national measures. 

We support global carbon trading as the most appropriate government policy for dealing with climate change. It will guarantee environmental targets are met, and minimise costs to passengers. Taxes and levies have little or no effect in reducing emissions and are costly.

Governments, working through the international body for aviation, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), have taken initial steps towards adopting the industry proposals, including agreeing a 2020 global cap on emissions.

We welcome the progress made by governments, and we will continue to push for a more ambitious solution for reducing the aviation industry’s global greenhouse gas emissions.
