British Airways Community Relations has awarded over £200,000 to projects supported by British Airways employees over the last 3 years. The awards are judged on the number of personal volunteering hours our employees give to their chosen charities.
British Airways staff donated £587,067 through the British Airways Giving scheme in 2006-2007. The programme is tax efficient and enables our employees to donate directly from their salary to the charity of their choice.
The top charities supported were Cancer Research UK, Sreepur Village Project (a Bangladesh orphanage founded by a former British Airways employee), High Flight (a charity managed by Flight Operations with the aim of taking disadvantaged children to their local airfield and giving them an opportunity to experience a flight), the RSPCA and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
British Airways staff have been raising funds for Cancer Research UK since 1994 and have raised over £680,000 to date. Since moving to our Corporate HQ, British Airways has hosted its own event for BA staff, friends and families. The BA fun run has grown to be the biggest event in the British Airways calendar and has over 3000 people in attendance every year.
British Airways Action for Street Children is a volunteer programme for British Airways staff . The programme works with three UK based charities; Hope for Children, Task Brasil and The Railway Children.
Teams of British Airways staff volunteers use their annual leave time to visit these projects in Sofia, Lusaka and Rio de Janeiro. As well as spending time with the children and encouraging the carers, the team brings educational and sports equipment with them. Several tons of donated goods are also sent free of charge to the projects through the generosity of British Airways World Cargo.
