Sreepur Village

During stopovers in Dhaka British Airways stewardess, Pat Kerr regularly worked as a volunteer at a children’s home. When Pat found that the building was under threat of closure she appealed to her colleagues in British Airways to raise funds to build the children a new home.

People throughout the airline responded immediately to the appeal and in 1989 Sreepur Village opened giving hope and opportunity to more than 500 abandoned children and over 100 destitute women. Pat lived at Sreepur for three years to establish a structure that could be managed by a local team and in November 2004 returned as director of the project.

In recent years women from the local community have been trained at Sreepur to produce handcrafted cards which are flown to the UK free of charge by British Airways. All proceeds from the sale of the cards are returned to the village.
