Car rental in Washington

Silver car.

Washington DC and the surrounding area have much to offer car rental tourists. Once you have visited the famous sights in the city itself, car rental proves ideal for exploring the wider region.

The perfect place to begin your car rental tour is at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens in Virginia. Just 16 miles from the city, the pretty homestead of George and Martha covers some 500 acres. It features the house, family tomb, slave memorial and attractive gardens. Car rental travellers can also have lunch in the on-site restaurant.

We also recommend a car rental trip over to Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. Some 90 minutes car rental drive from Washington, it is the site of Abraham Lincoln's famous address at Cemetery Ridge, commemorating the Civil War dead. This area is key in American history, so a whole day car rental visit is advisable.

The town is also the site of the largest battle ever fought on US soil, when the Union army of General Meade defeated General Lee's Confederates in 1863. There are lots of historic Civil War sights for car rental tourists to discover in Gettysburg, including many original houses that featured in the conflict.

No car rental tour of the Washington area would be complete without a trip over to Baltimore in Maryland. Just 35 miles from DC, the city benefits from many interesting museums and great shopping. The range of quality restaurants and bars on offer, plus the different ethnic neighbourhoods to explore, will also delight car rental visitors.
