Car rental in Newcastle

Silver car.

Surrounded by picturesque towns and beautiful countryside - Newcastle is perfect for car rental tours.

Pick up your car rental at Newcastle airport and let your adventure begin. Head out to the shores of Whitley Bay and take in some beautiful scenery. At low tide, you can walk out to the 100-year-old St Mary's Lighthouse.

Just 33 miles north of Newcastle you'll also reach Alnwick Castle, a border fortress built in the 11th century. Car rental tourists may recognise this impressive building as the location of Hogwarts School from the Harry Potter films.

Further north, you'll find Lindisfarne. This tidal island can be accessed by a causeway that gets flooded twice a day. It is home to the stunning Lindisfarne Castle and also a National Nature Reserve - both highly recommended if you're here on a car rental tour.

We also recommend using car rental to visit historic Durham, only a short journey south of Newcastle. The city's impressive 12th century cathedral and castle are both well worth the drive. Whilst you're here, head to Chester-le-Street to watch a game of cricket, or visit nearby Beamish Museum. You'll need to leave your rental car outside the gates of this reproduction of a working 19th Century town - visiting here is like stepping back in time.

Situated just south of the River Tyne, you won't be able to miss Antony Gormley's now iconic sculpture, the 'Angel of the North'. Built on the site of an old coal mine, the sculpture is 20 metres high with a 54-metre wingspan. Car rental drivers will easily see it from the A1 road in and out of Newcastle.

Car rental visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring the Newcastle countryside. With Northumberland National Park and North Yorkshire Moors National Park on your doorstep, there is much to see. Car rental will also give you access to the windswept Cheviot Hills, the scenic Pennine and Cleveland Ways, plus Kielder Water - the largest man-made lake in Europe.

A slightly longer car rental trip will take you to the beautiful town of Whitby. This seaside town has a small port and lies beneath the fascinating ruins of Whitby Abbey. Make sure you try the fish and chips here - some of the best in England.

We love to venture across the border into Scotland from Newcastle. Car rental means you can be north of the border in less than two hours. Beautiful village Gretna Green is one of the world's most popular wedding destinations.

We work in partnership with Avis to provide your car hire. All Avis car rental includes mandatory third party liability insurance*, unlimited mileage, collision damage waiver (excess applies), theft protection (excess applies), taxes and airport surcharges*.
