Although car rental is your best option for getting to the area, a local ferry is suggested for seeing the main sights once there.
The stunning natural landscape of the Cappadocia region also makes for a good car rental journey. Although four hours from Istanbul, the scenery here is exquisite and unique, with fascinating rock formations and strange subterranean dwellings with their famed 'fairy chimneys'. Chief among the attractions is the underground city of Derinkuyu, once home to over 20,000 people.
