About 40 km away from the Capital, car rental will take you to Montseny Natural Park. Given Biosphere Reserve status by UNESCO, this stunning area is full of many varieties of oak, plus beech and pine groves. The park also provides a home for wild boar, dormice and many bird species - including birds of prey.

Car rental is also needed when travelling to the National Park of Sant Llorenc del Munt i de la Serra d'Obac. This stunning natural reserve of rocky crags and cliffs is also around 40 km from Barcelona, so car rental is the main way to reach it. The journey is definitely worth the effort though, and you'll be rewarded with amazing scenery, more than 1,000 plant varieties, and the occasional wild boar and native bird sighting.

We also recommend a car rental trip to Montserrat. 60 km from Barcelona this ancient city, with its Benedictine Monastery and 16th century basilica, is the spiritual heartland of Catalonia. This picturesque and fascinating town is always worth a visit.

The Barcelona Region also has its fair share of sandy beaches. You'll need car rental to reach the pretty coastal resort of Sitges, which has over ten beaches plus ice-cream parlours and other tourist attractions.
