Established in the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian kings, Borovets is now Bulgaria's oldest and biggest mountain resort. It provides excellent opportunities for a whole range of winter sports from ski jumping to ice skating.
Sitting at the foot of peak Mousala, which at 2925m is the highest on the Balkan peninsula, Borovets has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds and its biathlon track is considered to be one of the best in the world.
There are a variety of runs located in three different regions, while cross-country and duathlon tracks are 2km away from the resort together with the cross-country tuition tracks. Off piste Borovets offers a range of accommodation as well as lively nightlife among the restaurants, bars, discos and shops.
