Hold one of two million queen conch shells from the onshore ponds where the herbivorous molluscs are raised at the Caicos Conch Farm on Providenciales island. Visitors can learn about its life cycle and purchase conch pearls in the shop.
The queen conch is an endangered species. Full of protein, conch meat is used widely in Caribbean cooking and the shell has been used to make jewellery, tools and weapons in the past. The mollusc feeds off algae and sea grass, making it an efficient and environmentally friendly aquarium cleaner.
