The ruins of former cotton plantation, Cheshire Hall, are over 200 years old and managed by the Turks and Caicos National Trust. Englishman Thomas Stubbs moved to Providenciales in the early-19th century, naming his plantation after his home county.
Once claiming thousands of acres and more than 300 slaves, a disastrous mixture of soil exhaustion, drought and a hurricane defeated the plantation after 30 years.
