Washington's National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the blooming of 3000 cherry trees around Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin. The celebrations peak with a parade along Constitution Avenue, followed by the largest Japanese Street Festival in the US.
Marching bands, Japanese horticulturists and taiko drummers are all on hand for the celebrations. The trees were a 1912 present from Tokyo to Washington. No one can predict exactly when they will start to flower, but organisers are confident that the big moment falls into the festival period.
