Washington's National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the blooming of 3000 cherry trees around Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin. The celebrations peak with a parade along Constitution Avenue, followed by the largest Japanese Street Festival in the US.

The trees were a 1912 present from Tokyo to Washington. No one can predict exactly when they will start to flower, but organisers are confident that the big moment falls into the festival period.
